Women's Water Polo Lands Three on ACWPC All American List

Bridgeport, PA—The ACWPC has announced their 2021 Division II All-American selections. One Mercyhurst women's water polo player found her name on the first team while two others found their names on the honorable mention list. Cassie Anderson was named to the first team while Sarah O'Keefe and Maddie Nye were honorable mentions.

Cassie Anderson / Junior / Saline, Michigan

Anderson was the main source of offense for the Lakers this season as she was able to appear in all of the Laker games and was able to score a team high 31 goals and added eight assists. She was also the main sprint person as she won 72.1 percent of the sprints that she took. She took 86 shots while drawing four exclusions. On the defensive side she was able tally 15 steals while also coming up with one block. Anderson had 10 multi goal games including three four goal games and one three goal game. She was a scoring machine in conference games as she scored 15 goals against conference opponents. Anderson was also named to the WWPA All-Conference Second Team.

Sarah O'Keefe / Senior / Half Moon Bay, California

O'Keefe was a main stay in the cage for the Lakers as she made 13 starts in her senior season. She had a 9.50 goals against average and was able to tally 131 saves which was good enough for a .514 save percentage, she also helped herself out on many occasions as she was able to record 11 steals. She was named to the WWPA All-Conference First Team prior to the WWPA Conference Tournament. In the WWPA tournament O'Keefe had over a .500 save percentage in each of the games including making 12 saves against McKendree and Gannon. In the semi-final game against Fresno Pacific she made 11 saves on 19 shots to punch the Lakers ticket to the WWPA Conference Championship game.

Maddie Nye / Senior / Napoleon, Ohio

The Napoleon, Ohio native was able to score 25 goals for the Lakers which ranked her second on the team. While she scored 25 goals, she was also able to add five assists and have a team high .417 shot percentage. In the WWPA Semi-final against Fresno Pacific, Nye was able to score four goals on nine shots to help the Lakers move on the to the conference championship. Against McKendree on April 10th Nye was able to take six shots and netted four of them to help the Lakers defeat McKendree to help the Lakers clinch the second seed in the last weekend of the regular season. Like her two teammates Nye was a second team WWPA All-Conference selection.
