Erie, PA—For the first time in since 2013, a Mercyhurst relief pitcher has been named to the NCBWA Atlantic All Region Team. After making 19 regular season appearances Michael Krauza has been named to the first team all-region team.
After coming to Mercyhurst from St. Bonaventure, Krauza was nothing but dominate for the Lakers. He finished the regular season with a PSAC leading nine wins in his first season with the Lakers. He was able to have a 2.15 ERA after he allowed just 11 earned runs in 46 innings for the Lakers. During his 46 innings he was able to strikeout 57 hitters while walking just four in the regular season. Krauza's best outing in the regular season was against Slippery Rock on April 30th. Against the Rock he went 4.1 innings while he allowed just one hit while he struckout nine as the Lakers earned a crucial win in the middle of a playoff race for the Lakers. Krauza has made 22 appearances this season through the PSAC playoffs which is the most since Adam Jeannette made 23 appearances in 2018. In 2018 Mercyhurst played 51 games, in 2021 the Lakers have played 42 games.
"Mike has been amazing for us this year; he has been our go to guy in every big situation. He is having one of the all-time great seasons in our programs history" Head Coach Joe Spano said.
This announcement comes just three days after Krauza was named to the First Team All PSAC Team. On Tuesday, the NCAA announced their first regional rankings for this season. Mercyhurst was ranked seventh in the Atlantic Region, the top five teams will make the regional tournament, the NCAA selection show will take place on Sunday at 10 PM on NCAA.com.
