Erie, PA—After going 2-1 this past weekend the Mercyhurst Baseball team has moved up to third in the NWCBA Atlantic Region Poll. Mercyhurst was ranked fifth and have moved up to third after receiving 97 votes.
Mercyhurst defeated Notre Dame College on Friday at home by a score of 5-2. The Lakers then faced the Lake Erie Storm and in comeback fashion won by a score of 8-7. Mercyhurst then played Division I Akron and were defeated 12-1 on Sunday.
In the weekend opener the Lakers recorded nine hits, Matthew Gibson was able to go 3-3 at the plate while also adding a walk to his day. Troy Banks had the honor of having both the first hit and home run on the new turf field as he put the second pitch he saw over the center field fence. Michael Krauza earned his first win as a Laker as needed just 13 pitches to get through 1.2 innings of work which included two strikeouts.
Against Lake Erie, the Lakers were able to put four runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth and take the lead, they wouldn't let go of it and defeated the Storm 8-7. The Lakers generated eight hits in the game while Krauza once again got credit for the win while pitching 2.2 innings and allowing just one hit in the outing. Banks was able to go 2-5 at the plate while also coming around to score a season high three runs. Jack Elliott was also able to add to his team high RBIs as he dove in two against the Strom.
The Lakers will be back at home this weekend to take on D'Youville in a doubleheader on Saturday.
