Box Score 2 Grove City, PA—The Mercyhurst Women's Water Polo team was back in the pool to open their 2021 season. Mercyhurst was able to defeat Wittenberg by a score of 17-5 and followed that up with a 26-10 win over Grove City.
Game One vs Wittenberg
The Lakers were able to open their season in convincing fashion as they received goals from seven different players. Leading the way was Maddie Nye who was able to score five goals for the Lakers. Right behind her was Sara Marin who was able to net three goals while also adding three more assists. Cassie Anderson was able to net her first hat trick of the season. In net for the Lakers, Sarah O'Keefe was able to stop 10 shots while also adding two assists in the season opener. Rachel Morris was able get on the scoresheet as she who one goal and added five assists for the Lakers.
Game Two vs Grove City
Mercyhurst stayed hot in the second game of the day, they were able to score 26 goals while allowing just Grove City to find the back of the net 10 times. They received goals from eight different players including career highs from Morris who scored four goals. Freshman Rachel Vlietstra was able net four goals for the Lakers in just her second career collegiate game. Both Nye and Hanna Good were able to put multiple goals for the Lakers. Madison Hoefakker made her first start in net for the Lakers and was able to add two assists while playing a great game in net holding Grove City to just 10 goals.
