Erie, PA— The last time the Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo team was competing against an opponent was November 10th, 2019, after 454 days the Lakers will finally be back in the pool on Saturday.
Mercyhurst will travel to Emmitsburg, Maryland to take on Gannon University and Mount St. Mary's with games starting at 1 PM and 4 PM.
The Lakers will return 11 players from a season ago, while adding three new freshmen. In net for Mercyhurst is junior Nash Greeven, last season Greeven was able to appear in 21 games while holding a .442 save percentage in almost 700 minutes played.
Mercyhurst lost their top four scorers from a season ago, however junior Mathieu Davis returns after netting 31 goals for the Lakers while adding 16 steals. Defender Michael Gutman returns for his junior season, as a sophomore he was able to net 16 goals while assisting on another 17 goals.
Scouting Gannon
The Golden Knights return 16 players from a season ago in which they went 18-4. Gannon has played in two game this season with one counting as an exhibition. Gannon has played Salem in an exhibition and were able to come out on top 21-11 and they were able to beat Mount St. Mary by a score of 26-5. Sophomore Seth Johnson has led the way with five goals in the game against Mount St. Mary, along with three other players notched four points each.
Scouting Mount St. Mary's
Mount St. Mary's started its program this season have only played one game this season and one exhibition. The Mountaineers only have four players who have experience playing water polo at the collegiate level, while the rest of the team are freshman in the program. In their first ever game as a program the Mountaineers fell to Gannon by a score of 26-5. The game against Mercyhurst will be their first home event.
