Today's student-athlete question and answer was with women's ice hockey sophomore goalie Jenna Silvonen.  Silvonen, a native of Lohja, Finland, has appeared in eight games so far this season posting a 4-1-1 record with a 1.47 goals against average and .932 save percentage.  She recorded wins in her first three appearances this season all against RIT.  In 2019-20 she went 4-2-2 overall with a 3-1-2 mark in CHA play recording a .913 save percentage and a 2.13 goals against average.  Before coming to Erie she played for Blues U20.

What made you choose Mercyhurst?  I chose Mercyhurst because of the beautiful campus and strong hockey program.

What is your major and why did you choose it?  I am an Sport Business Managment major.

What is the best thing about being at Mercyhurst?  The best thing about being at Mercyhurst is meeting many new people and the small class sizes.  

What is your favorite sports memory so far at Mercyhurst?  Winning the CHA Championship last season.

What is your team's focus?  We want to just continue on from where we left off last season.

Do you have any pre or post game rituals?  Pre-game coffee and good music are the most important parts of my gameday rituals.  

Where do you hope to stop for a post-game meal?  I would want to go to Chipotle.

Does being an athlete help you in the classroom?  If so why?  Yes, being an athlete has taught me good time management skills and teamwork.

Personal questions:
Who is your favorite athlete (current or retired)?  My favorite athlete is current Boston Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask.  

What are some of your favorite ways to spend time outside of your sport?  I love to spend time with my friends

Do you have any pets?  Yes, I have two dogs.

What is something unique and interesting about you that we should know?  I can speak three different languages.

If you could go anywhere in the world for vacation where would it be and why?  I would like to go to Bali, because I have heard it is a beautiful place.

If you could play another sport what would it be and why?  I would play soccer, because I used to play it when I was little.

If you could swap lives with a celebrity for a week who would it be and why?  I would trade with professional tennis player Serena Williams, because she is a strong female athlete.

What is your favorite family tradition?  My favorite family tradition is cooking meals together.

If you could have one superpower what would it be and why?  I would want to be able to teleport, because I would have the ability to travel anywhere I want.

What was something you did not like as a child, but do now?  Reading books

Who is your biggest role model?  My biggest role model is Noora Räty, because she has had an amazing career so far and she has had a huge impact on women's ice hockey in Finland. 

What was your first experience with your sport?  My first experience with hockey was watching both of my older brothers playing and just being around the rink.

What was your favorite game as a child?  Cops and Robbers

What is your favorite sports memory so far at any level?  My favorite sports memory is the 2019 Women's World Championship gold medal game in Finland.
