PAINESVILLE, OH – The Mercyhurst Wrestling team was victorious on Saturday evening as they defeated the host Lake Erie College by a score of 23-16 for their second dual meet win of the young season.
Eric Bartos had the first victory of the match for the Lakers when he picked up a 6-1 decision over Ryan Wehner at 133. Alexis Soriano followed with a winning performance of his own at 141, a 7-4 decision over Nate Deboe, to tie the total team score at six all.
After two close defeats suffered by
Jaden Reagle and Max Stedford, the Lakers ripped off three straight wins in the matches to follow.
Matthew Leehan started it with a 6-1 decision win over Jacob Potok, fellow freshman
Dillon Walker followed with a decision of his own over nationally ranked John Penfold at 174.
Luke McGonigal capped it off when he defeated Honnor Kline by technical fall in the first period to put Mercyhurst ahead of the Storm 17-12.
Jacob Robb closed out the night pinning his opponent in the second period to give the Lakers the 23-16 final.
Mercyhurst now holds a 2-1 dual meet record going into the Midwest Classic next week hosted by The University of Indianapolis.
