WINTHROP, MA -- Two members of the Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team were chosen as CHA Players of the Week in their respective categories on Tuesday. Jenna Silvonen was picked as the CHA Goaltender of the Week and Sydney Pedersen was named the CHA Rookie of the Week.
Silvonen started in the second game of the week for the Lakers against Boston College at the Smashville Women's Hockey Showcase. Silvonen saved 24 of the 26 shots the Eagles put her way in the Lakers 4-2 victory. The junior from Lohja, Finland improved her season record to 6-2-2 to go along with a 1.78 GAA. This is Silvonen's second CHA Weekly Award this year.
Pedersen scored her 10th point of her freshman campaign on Saturday when she assisted on a
Chantal Ste-Croix goal. Pedersen also led the Lakers with seven blocked shots in the two games Mercyhurst played in Nashville. This is Pedersen's second CHA Weekly Award this year.
K.K. Thiessen also received attention as an Honorable Mention for the CHA Defenseman of the Week Award. Thiessen was credited with an assist in the Lakers win over Boston College.
