FINDLAY, OHIO --- The Mercyhurst Wrestling team was back in action on Saturday as 20 Mercyhurst wrestlers were competing at the Findlay Open hosted by Findlay University.
The Lakers had three Lakers take home top six honors in their respective weight divisions. Alexis Soriano was the highest Mercyhurst finisher as he finished second at 141. Soriano had three decision victories on his way to the finals including a 10-3 decision in semifinals. Caiden Mooney was also competing at 141 for the Lakers, he finished the day 1-2.
At 149,
Matthew Ferraro and
Jaden Reagle both picked up victories as the pair each finished their days 1-2. The Lakers had two freshmen taking the mat at 157 in
Max Stedeford and
Matthew Leehan. Stedeford went 3-2 on the day including two wins by fall in the consolation bracket. Leehan went 2-2 to improve on his season win total.
Dillon Walker went 1-2 fresh off his opening weekend win. The freshman's win came by way of a 6-3 decision.
At 184 Mercyhurst's
Luke McGonigal racked up the sixth place spot. McGonigal went 2-2 in his bracket including a 14-3 major decision for his second win of the day.
Brent Burbules joined McGnigal at 184, he too went 2-2 picking up two decision wins in the consolation bracket.
Hunter Harnish went 1-2 at 197 for the Lakers, his win came in his opening round match by way of a pin at the 2:08 mark.
Jacob Robb started his day 3-0 before dropping his fourth match of the day. Robb would go on to win two matches in the consolation bracket which was good enough for 3rd place at 285. The graduate student Robb had two pins along with a technical fall in three of his five victories.
Up next, the Lakers will be off next weekend before heading to Lake Erie College on Saturday December, 5th for the Storm Open.
