Walker Claims Individual Title as Six Lakers Place at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open

Freshamn Dillon Walker won by an 8-1 decision in the finals of the white division to claim the individual title for the Lakers at 174. Walker paced the six Lakers who placed in the two division tournament on Sunday held at Tiffin University.

Walker's path to the final started with a 16-5 major decision over Ashland's Mason Sutander, Walker then defeated Rune Lewis of Notre Dame College by decision 8-3 to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals Walker pinned Benjamin Doughrty of RIT at the 2:11 mark. In the final Walker was victorious by decision (8-1) over Zach Stedeford of RIT.

Jacob Robb was the next highest finisher as he placed 2nd at 285 in the gold division. Robb won two matches after two byes including a 15-0 technical fall in the semifinals over Mike Viramontes of Notre Dame College before falling in the final to Ohio State's Tate Orndorff.

Matthew Leehan placed in his first career collegiate tournament, the freshman picked up two falls in his first two matches as he went on to take 4th in the 157 pound white division bracket. Fellow freshman Max Stedeford picked up a 10-0 major decision in the same bracket before dropping his second round match.

Luke McGonigal was the 5th place finisher in the 184 gold division bracket. The senior won by MFF in his fifth place match after winning his opening round match by fall to Ohio State's Rocky Jordan.

Caiden Mooney also picked up a fifth place finish in the 141 gold division bracket. Mooney won his first round match against Alec Fulwinder of Glenville State College 17-15. Mooney won his 5th place match by forfeit.

Alex Samson also placed in the gold division for Mercyhurst at 149. Samson won a 5-2 decision over Jacob Simpson of West Liberty to help get him to the fifth place match were he was defeated.

The Lakers will be back in action next Saturday at the Findlay Open hosted by Findlay University in Ohio.
