Altavilla Named to Padres Postseason Roster

San Diego, CA— The San Diego Padres announced their 2020 Postseason Roster on Wednesday, which features 2014 Mercyhurst Pitcher Dan Altavilla.

As a Laker, Altavilla earned the Brett Tomko Award given to Division II's Most Outstanding Pitcher in 2014. During his final season at Mercyhurst, Altavilla earned a record of 9-1 while appearing in 12 games. Atavilla racked up 129 strikeouts in 80.1 innings while posting a 1.23 ERA. Altavilla would go on to become the 15th Laker selected in the MLB Draft when he was selected in fifth round, 141 overall to the Seattle Mariners.

In 2016, Altavilla appeared in 15 games for the Mariners as a rookie posting a 0.73 ERA over 12.1 innings of work. After playing three more seasons and appearing in 130 games for the Mariners, Altavilla was traded to the San Diego Padres on August 31, 2020 and was activated on September 2, 2020. In the 2020 season with the Padres, Altavilla appeared in 9 games for the Padres, while racking up 10 strikeouts and holding opposing hitters to a .200 batting average.

With his addition to the Padres Postseason roster, Altavilla becomes just the second Mercyhurst player to accomplish this. The Padres start their Postseason tonight against St. Louis at 5:08 on ESPN2.
