WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's water polo team fell 21-20 to Salem in overtime before winning 18-12 over Connecticut on Saturday.
 
Salem 21, Mercyhurst 20
Ryan Witoslawski had eight points, 
Alex Cappuccio scored five points, 
Daniel Alvarez recorded four points, 
Jonathan Merkley tallied three points, 
Mathieu Davis, 
Derek Kagen, 
Joel Parnell and 
Paul Goddard had two points each and single points were earned by 
Dylan Shaffer, 
Teagan Thomas, 
Nebyat Mamo and 
Nash Greeven.
 
In net, Greeven made 10 saves and had three steals.
 
For Salem, Milos Popovic led the way with 10 points, Robert Juhas and Michael Rojas scored nine points each, Adam Hudson and Manual Soto Estela had three each, Salvador Orozco, Nephtali Rivera and Uros Jevtic picked up two points each and Julen Alonso had one point.
 
In net, Julen Alonso made 16 saves and had four steals.
 
Mercyhurst 18, Connecticut 12
Alvarez led the way for Mercyhurst with seven points, Witoslawki tallied six points, Kagen and Mamo scored three points, 
Matthew Virzi, 
Dylan Shaffer, Merkley, Davis and Cappuccio had two points and single points were given to 
Reed Bearden, 
Conor Cross Duncan, 
Jacob Tanner, Thomas and Goddard.
 
In net, Tanner made nine saves and had two steals.
 
For Connecticut, Sam Guy had four points, Arturo Freitas, Mike Gertsik, Sean King and Christian Jacobsen recorded three points each and Lucas Verilli had two points.
 
In net, Tim Belobordov made eight saves.
 
The Lakers are back in action Sunday at 12:40 p.m. against Washington and Jefferson.
