Box Score CARY, NC-- The Mercyhurst baseball team falls in the first round of the College World Series to Tampa 4-2, Despite
Tyler Garbee's stellar pitching performance. From the Start Garbee was dialed in striking out 12 batters and reached a season milestone of 100 strike outs on the season. The Lakers will be back in action in the elimination game against Catawba on Tuesday, June 4th, at 3:00 PM.
Garbee from the start was locked in forcing the Spartans in the first to go three up three down as we headed to the top half of the second.  MU would catch fire with
Matthew Schneider starting off the inning with a single to right field.Â
Josh Surowiec would then get a standup double after having is hit be robbed in center field but would be dropped after being pulled back in leaving runners on second and third. Â
Hunter Snyder would then groundout to the shortstop scoring Schneider from first, giving Mercyhurst an early 1-0 lead. The Lakers would not stop there after
Luke Baranchak would hit a hard grounder to the first baseman which would be bobbled and eventually thrown over the pitchers head covering at first to then allow Surowiec to get in a foot race to home and called safe at the plate for a 2-0 Laker lead. Â
The Spartans would look to answer the two runs but would be shutdown by Garbee recording all three outs via strikeout leaving one runner on second to close the home half of the inning. Garbee would continue to slice through the Tampa lineup before giving away a few free bases and a Sirven single to left center scoring Tampa's own Blair to cut the lead, 2-1.Â
Jeannette would come in for Garbee in a bases loaded jam and would give up a triple down the right field line allowing all three runners on base to score, giving UT its first lead of the game. Arredondo had came in for Pimentel as a relief pitcher in the 8th. He would shutdown the Laker bats and would continue to do so in the 9th striking out four of the total six batter faced in his relief and picked up the win as Tampa defeated Mercyhurst, 4-2.
