Malec Gets Five Innings and Four Strikeouts In Game Two Doubleheader Defeat

MADISON, N.J. — The Mercyhurst baseball team fell to Wagner with a final score of 8-3 on Saturday at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark. Despite scoring three runs in the fourth inning, the Lakers were unable to overcome Wagner's consistent offensive performance, which included ten hits and eight RBIs.

Wagner took an early lead in the first inning. A walk and a fielding error by the Lakers allowed Wagner to score on a sacrifice fly. They also scored from an RBI-double, making the Seahawks go up 2-0.

In the fourth inning, the Lakers responded. Zachary Kourous walked and stole two bases. A fielding error allowed Kourous to score, and another error brought Luke Babcock home. Mike Samarin scored on Zach Black's RBI single, giving the Lakers a 3-2 lead.

Wagner regained control in the sixth inning. A double, followed by a RBI-double and then a single put Wagner ahead 4-3.

Wagner extended its lead in the seventh. After a hit by pitch, Wagner hit a single and a double scoring a run. They also hit a two-run single, driving in two more runs, increasing Wagner's advantage to 7-3.

Wagner hit two more singles and later scored on on a groundout in the eighth, marking the final scoring play. Wagner's 8-3 victory was secured as the Lakers could not produce any runs in the final innings.

Final score: Wagner 8, Lakers 3.

Andrew Malec started on the mound for Mercyhurst, delivering a solid performance with five innings pitched, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out four and issuing two walks. Noah Ehlers entered in relief, struggling through 1.1 innings by giving up four runs on five hits, including a hit batter, while throwing 42 pitches. Zac Evenson closed out the game, pitching 1.2 innings and surrendering one run on two hits, effectively throwing 14 strikes out of 18 pitches.

Zachary Kourous made a notable impact with two stolen bases and scored a run. Jayden Walker contributed with two hits, including a double, showcasing his effectiveness at the plate. Mike Samarin added a hit and scored a run, contributing to the team's offensive efforts.

The Green and Blue have a record of 15-32 and 14-19 in the NEC. Wagner has a record of 28-22 and 23-10 in the NEC.
