Women's Water Polo Splits Day Two of WWPA Championships, To Play in Seventh-Place Game on Sunday

GENEVA, Ohio – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team won its first game of the day 11-6 over McKendree before falling 7-6 to Salem during the Western Water Polo Association Championships.
 
The Lakers will play in the seventh-place game on April 28 against Sonoma State at 8:00 a.m.
 
Mercyhurst 11, McKendree 6
Mercyhurst scored the first three goals of the game before McKendree tallied one. The Lakers then added one more to end the first quarter 4-1. Mercyhurst went on the scored three more goals in the second quarter while McKendree added one to make it 7-2. During the third quarter, the Lakers opened up the quarter with one goal before McKendree tallied two. The Lakers ended the third quarter scoring two more goals to make it 10-4. Mercyhurst added one goal in the fourth quarter while McKendree picked up two goals to end it 11-6 Mercyhurst.
 
Maddie Nye led the way for the Lakers with five goals and one assist. Michaela Hershey had one goal and two assists while Rachel Morris recorded two goals. Jennifer Moshinsky, Mason Feldstein and Isabella Morris each had one goal. Single assists were added by Mackenzie Ryburn and Lindsey Mizrahi.
 
Rachel Morris, Nye, Feldstein and Mizrahi each grabbed on steal.
 
Sarah O'Keefe made 19 saves in net for Mercyhurst.
 
For McKendree, Briaana Mullalley, Mikayla Davis, Emily Westlove, Kaitlyn Moguel, Lili Castillo and Maddy Bolton each had one goal.
 
Isabella Strimling made eight saves in net while Kim Fay made one save. Both goalies had one steal each.
 
Salem 7, Mercyhurst 6
Mercyhurst took an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter before Salem tied it at 2-2 in the second quarter. During the third quarter both teams scored three goals each to take a 5-5 tie into the fourth quarter. Salem scored twice in the fourth quarter to take a 7-5 lead. The Lakers came back with one goal, but it wasn't enough as Salem won 7-6.
 
Nye tallied four goals and one assist while single goals were scored by Rachel Morris and Michaela Hershey. Rachel Morris and Sarah Hershey had one assist each.
 
Nye and Sarah Hershey grabbed two steals while Ryburn, Byrnes and Moshinsky had one steal each.
 
O'Keefe made 12 saves in net for Mercyhurst.
 
For Salem, Margherita Garibbo and Chloe Woodbine each recorded two goals and two assists. Annefleur ten Bloemendal and Camryn Cotter picked up the other goals.
 
Philippa Piper made 16 saves in net for Salem.
