ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team won 14-9 over Villanova at the Cathedral Prep and Events Center on Sunday.

Maddie Nye scored six goals and had one assist while
Sarah Hershey recorded five goals.
Mackenzie Ryburn tallied two goals and two assists and
Rachel Morris picked up one goal and one assists.
Rachel Byrnes added three assists while
Michaela Hershey and
Lindsey Mizrahi each tallied one assist for Mercyhurst (5-13).

In net,
Sarah O'Keefe made nine saves and had one steal.

Mercyhurst scored first, before Villanova came back with two goals to make it 2-1. The Lakers fought back with five goals to take the lead back 6-2. Villanova scored two more goals to cut their deficit to 6-4.

During the second quarter, each team scored one goal to make it 7-5 Mercyhurst.

The Lakers started off the third quarter with three goals to extend their lead to 10-5, before Villanova added one more to make it 10-6. Mercyhurst picked up one more late goal to earn a 11-6 lead going into the fourth quarter.

During the fourth quarter, the Lakers scored three goals before Villanova tallied three goals to end the game 14-9 Mercyhurst.

For Villanova (11-14), Kate Murray and Kaysie Stenmoen had three goals. Maria Breen, Paris Huffman and Isabel Herbst picked up one goal each.

In net, Gaby Palmisano made three saves. Cory Riley also played in net for Villanova.

The Lakers are back in action on April 6-7 when they head to Lebanon, Ill. for the WWPA Conference Weekend. They will take on McKendree, Carthage, Salem and Monmouth.
