ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to non-conference opponent Salem on Tuesday at the Westwood Racquet Club.
The visiting Tigers won 2 of 3 doubles matches to take a 1-0 match lead before winning 4 of 6 singles contests.
Ivona Plecevic and
Athina Tsagkaraki won the No. 2 doubles contest for the Lakers, defeating Iryna Rusyn and Brianna Vasquez, 6-1.
In singles action, Salem took the first four decisions, clinching the match on Karolina Glowinska's victory at No. 3 singles.
Naomi Jahr and
Hannah Wenzel tacked on the Laker points at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Jahr won in straight sets over Kristina Vuksanovic, 6-3, 6-2, while Wenzel took a straight-set victory against Vasquez, 6-0, 6-1.
The Lakers (2-3) will return to competition on Sunday when they host Ashland for a non-conference match.
