Women's Tennis Falls to Chicago State on the Road

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mercyhurst women's tennis team traveled west to take on the Chicago State Cougars on Friday. After dropping their previous NEC matchup to Saint Francis on March 27, the Lakers were looking to bounce back with their second conference win of the season.
 
In singles competition, Daria Rogova earned an early 6-4 victory on the first court, but fell in a 10-5 tiebreaker after her opponent bounced back with a 6-2 victory. Simone Mercier competed on the second court where she fell 6-2 in her first set and battled hard during her second, but ultimately fell 6-4. Kiersten Brown earned a singles victory for the Lakers by a score of 6-2 in both sets. Ellyana Jacobs kept her first set close before falling 6-4 and was unable to do the same in the final set, falling 6-1. Celeste Davis mounted an impressive comeback after falling 6-2 in her opening set. She came away with a 7-6 win in the second set thanks to a 7-3 tiebreaker, but fell 11-9 in the final set of her match against the Cougars. Mollie Gray competed on the sixth court, where she fell 6-1 and 6-2 in her sets.
 
In doubles, the team of Mercier and Brown took on Chicago on the first court and kept their match close before falling 7-5. Rogova and Jacobs earned a Laker win on the second court 7-6 thanks to their 9-7 tiebreaker. The final Laker duo of Gray and Mercier managed to keep their match close as well, but fell 6-4.
 
The Lakers ultimately fell to the Cougars 6-1 at Youngstown.
 
The Blue and Green will next host D'Youville at Westwood Racquet Club for their final home match of the season Saturday, April 11. Start time set for 1:00 PM.
