PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Mercyhurst wrestling squad earned four place winners Sunday at the Storm Open hosted by Lake Erie College.
Logan Grass and Jacob Robb each earned second place finishes at 165 and 285 respectively. At 133, Eric Bartos posted a fourth-place finish. Mike Clark notched an eighth-place finish at the 157-pound weight class.
Grass opened the tournament with a 19-0 tech fall over Michael Blakemore of Lake Erie. Grass scored a fall 50 seconds into the second period to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, Grass earned a 9-4 decision over Cade Hepner wrestling unattached from Ohio State. Grass fell in the final to another unattached Ohio State wrestler Carson Kharchla.
Robb continued his strong start with pin in the opening round just 24 seconds. He followed up his fall with a tech fall in the quarterfinals with a score of 22-7. In the semifinals, Robb tallied another first period fall in 1:24. In the finals, Robb dropped a 9-4 decision to Gary Traub of Ohio State.
Bartos started with a 10-5 decision over Nick Oldham of Ohio State. Bartos advanced to the semifinals with a major decision over Wyatt Lutz of West Virginia. Bartos battled but lost 4-3 in the semifinals and dropped a 9-3 decision in the third-place match to finish fourth.
Clark opened with a 15-6 major decision. After falling in the second round, Clark reeled off three straight wins to reach the consolation semifinals. Clark dropped an 18-4 major decision before a no contest put him in eighth place.
The Lakers open their dual meet season when they host Millersville at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Friday Dec. 6. Wrestling begins at 7 p.m.
