ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst football team scored 30 straight points to roll past Edinboro 44-23 Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium.
The Lakers trailed 17-7 after a Fighting Scots field goal with 4:47 left in the first.
Cortez Watson got the scoring barrage started with an 18-yard catch that capped a 13-play 92-yard drive that took 6:51 off the clock to trim the lead to 17-14.
Jason Armstrong hauled in a
Doug Altavilla pass from 12-yards out to give the Lakers a 20-14 advantage with 3:42 left in the second quarter. The second half scoring started with a snap going over the head of Edinboro punter's head and being recovered by the Fighting Scots for a Laker safety making the score 22-14.
Garrett Owens scored three times in the second half on his way to 103 yards rushing as well as hauling in two passes and completing a pass for 16 yards.
Doug Altavilla finished the game with 202 yards passing two touchdowns. Armstrong caught five passes for 68 yards and a score.
The Laker defense had three interceptions including an 80-yard pick six by
Joseph Scro.
Ryan Funa recorded nine tackles, a tackle for a loss and an interception.
Alex Zacharyasz added eight stops.
Mercyhurst is back in action next Saturday when Seton Hill visits Saxon Stadium for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
