ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's water polo team picked up two non-conference wins during the opening of the Laker Invitational, defeating CalTech, 16-10, and then Lindenwood, 10-8, on Saturday.
 
The Lakers (4-0) will finish the Laker Invitational on Sept. 9 against La Salle and Penn State Behrend.
 
Mercyhurst 16, CalTech 10
Matt Bachler led the way with four goals and six assists. 
Ryan Witoslawski and 
Daniel Alvarez each had three goals and one assist. 
Connor Schmitz added two goals.
 
Single goals were recorded by 
Alex Cappuccio, 
Alec Diaz, 
Philip Jenny and 
Otis Tyson. Jenny picked up three assists while Diaz earned one assist.
 
Shaquille Mitchell and 
Noah Ratliff each recorded one assist.
 
Alvarez, Jenny and Diaz each contributed three steals for Mercyhurst. Ratliff had two steals.
Goalie 
Nash Greeven made three saves while picking up eight steals.
 
Eshan Govil and Charles Ross recorded three goals each for CalTech. Goalie Bradley Justice had 12 saves.
 
Mercyhurst 10, Lindenwood 8
Witoslawski and Bachler recorded two goals and one assists each while Mitchell also picked up two goals.
 
Cappuccio had one goal and one assist. Single goals were credited to, 
Connor Schmitz, Alvarez and Jenny.
 
Nebyat Mamo and Diaz contributed one assist each to the Lakers.
 
Cappuccio also had two steals.
 
Greeven put up five saves and one steal.
 
Nasev Nikola, Babic Andreja and Marino Chorro scored two goals apiece for Lindenwood. Goalie Lance Clark made four saves.
