ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's tennis team defeated non-conference opponent Fairmont State, 8-1, and claimed its 18th consecutive victory on Sunday. The Lakers are ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic Region.

The Lakers won the first two doubles points and built a 2-1 lead through pairs play before sweeping all six singles contests. Adina Spahalic provided the match-clinching point when she won at No. 5 singles.

Adrianna Jeffress and Kayla Frost (No. 6 Atlantic doubles) got Mercyhurst started with an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles over Isadora Matos and Bailey Edeburn. In the No. 1 doubles match, the MU duo of Spahalic and Saioa Gomez de Segura (No. 4 Atlantic doubles) had its 20-match winning streak snapped by Fairmont's Trinite Klamadji and Heloisa Adams (No. 10 Atlantic doubles) by an 8-4 decision.

In singles play, Tsagkaraki scored the first Mercyhurst point, defeating Kate Lauerman, 6-0, 6-0, at sixth singles. Jeffress (No. 3 Atlantic singles) then finished a 6-1, 6-0, victory against Matos at No. 3 singles, setting the stage for Spahalic's 6-0, 6-1, triumph over Hayley Hatfield.

Plecevic won against Edeburn, 6-0, 6-1; NCAA Division II-ranked-18th Gomez de Segura (No. 1 Atlantic singles) defeated Klamadji (No. 14 Atlantic singles), 6-0, 6-3; and Frost (No. 2 Atlantic singles) outlasted Adams (No. 17 Atlantic singles), 7-6 (7-3), 6-0.

Gomez de Segura extended her individual win streak to 17 while Spahalic is on a 16-match win streak, Tsagkaraki has won 15 straight matches and Plecevic is on an 13-match winning streak.
