YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mercyhurst women's tennis team traveled west to take on the Youngstown Penguins to kick off their weekend of action. After dropping their match against neighboring Cleveland State, the Lakers were looking to rebound on the road.

In singles competition,
Daria Rogova competed on the first court and kept her opening set tight before falling 6-4. Rogova was unable to mount a comeback, falling 6-2 in her final set.
Simone Mercier managed to keep her match close throughout her sets, but ultimately fell 6-4 in both.
Kiersten Brown played on the third court and fell 6-3 in her first set and attempted a comeback in the following set, but fell 6-4.
Ellyana Jacobs took her match to three sets after falling 6-1 in the opening set. She came away with a 7-6 win thanks to a 7-4 tiebreaker in her second set before pulling away 10-7 in the final set.
Celeste Davis fell on the fifth court 6-3 and 6-2 while
Mollie Gray fell 6-0 in both of her sets.

In doubles competition, the team of Davis and Rogova fell 6-2 while the match for Mercier and Brown was abandoned after reaching 4-4. Jacobs and Gray were unable to come away with the win, falling 6-0.

The Lakers ultimately fell 6-1.

The Blue and Green will next host Duquesne at Westwood Racquet Club as they honor this year's seniors Sunday, March 22. Start time set for 3:00 PM.
