NORTH EAST, Pa. -- Ryan Mehnert claimed his first collegiate win over teammate Chris Kupniewski as the Mercyhurst men's golf team claimed the team title in the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational, which took place Sunday and Monday at Lake View Country Club. The Lakers shot a total of 590 (297-293) to claim first place.

With 145 strokes apiece, Mehnert (74-71) and Kupniewski (74-71) tied through 36 holes, forcing a playoff situation in which Mehnert emerged victorious. Kupniewski finished second.

Harison Laskey also finished high on the leaderboard, shooting a 147 (74-73) to claim a third-place finish.

Adrian Larson finished in a tie for 16th place and shot a 154 (75-79) while Les Lancaster finished in a tie for 23rd and shot a 156 (78-78).

Mercyhurst had four members compete as individuals at the event, led by Jacob Blondell placing 25th and scoring a 157 (77-80). Dave Rinderle shot a 160 (82-78) and finished in a tie for 29th. Jose Pena finished in a tie for 35th with a 165 (81-84) and Nick Eck tied for 43rd with a 170 (81-89). 

The Lakers will compete again next in the NCAA Regional Tournament in Daniels W. Va., on May 8-10.
