PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Former Mercyhurst women's ice hockey standouts Meghan Agosta ('11) and Bailey Bram ('12) will represent Team Canada at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championships to be held in Plymouth, Mich. at the USA Hockey Arena.
The tournament begins play on Friday, March 31 and will end with the Gold Medal Game on Friday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Agosta joins Team Canada for her 11
th major international tournament. She has competed in three Olympic Games and seven IIHF World Championships since 2006, winning five gold medals and seven silver medals.
She finished her Mercyhurst career with 303 points on 157 goals and 146 assists. She holds career records in the NCAA for points, goals, power-play goals (55), short-handed goals (20), and game-winning goals (39). Agosta was named NCAA All-American in 2009 and College Hockey America Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007.
Agosta currently resides in Vancouver, B.C. working for the Vancouver Police Department. She will be an alternate captain for Team Canada.
Bram currently plays for the Calgary Inferno in the CWHL and joins Team Canada for her fourth IIHF World Championship. During the 2016-17 season for Calgary, Bram was sixth in the CWHL in scoring with 24 points in 22 games and helped Calgary reached the Clarkson Cup.
Bram completed her Mercyhurst career with 201 points on 87 goals and 114 assists. She became the fourth player in Mercyhurst history to register 200 career points or more. Her senior season, she registered a career high 66 points including a career-high 41 assists. She was a top ten finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award in 2012 and was named the 2008 College Hockey America Rookie of the Year.
Team Canada begins the tournament on Friday against Team USA at 7:30 p.m. That game in addition to the medal round can be seen on NHL Network. All other Team Canada games can be seen across Canada on various
TSN stations.
