The Mercyhurst women's water polo team gets in the pool for the first time this year when it travels to Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bison Invitational Feb. 10-12.
The Lakers begin the tournament Friday evening with a matchup against George Washington at 7 p.m. They take on the host, Bucknell, the next day at 11:15 a.m. followed by a contest against St. Francis (Pa.) later on at 5:30 p.m. Mercyhurst finishes the weekend with a game against Claremont Mudd-Scripps on Sunday at 8 a.m.

The Lakers begin the season after a 9-12 2016 season that saw them get to the third-place game in the Western Water Polo Association Championships in their first season in the WWPA. They ranked fourth in the
2017 WWPA coaches' poll released Jan. 19.
Mercyhurst returns nine players from its 2016 squad and welcomes in five freshmen. Top returners from last season include seniors
Becky Insalaco,
Jena Clinch, and
Amanda Wolterink. Joining them are juniors
Nicki Borella,
Cristal Maldonado,
Erin Glass, and
Carly Romano, as well as sophomores
Mackenzie Ryburn and
Sarah Hershey.
Incoming freshmen include goaltender
Madison Maes, utility specialists
Kensey Clinch (Jena's sister),
Rachel Byrnes, and
Jennifer Moshinsky. Rounding out the group of newcomers is defenseman
Mason Feldstein.
After the Bucknell Invitational, the Lakers return to Erie to host the Mercyhurst Invitational at the Prep-Villa Events Center Feb. 18-19.
