The Mercyhurst men's water polo team dropped both of its non-conference matchups in New York City Saturday, Oct. 21. The Lakers lost to Fordham in their first game before falling to Iona in game to later in the day.

Fordham 14, Mercyhurst 5
The Lakers dropped their first game of the weekend by nine to the 20
th-ranked Fordham Rams.

The Rams got off to a solid start with a 5-1 lead after the first quarter that they drew out to a 9-3 advantage at halftime.

All five Laker goals were scored by different players.
Philip Jenny led Mercyhurst with one goal and an assist. He also had team-highs with five shots and four steals. Â Â

Mercyhurst could not find much success offensively and finished 5-for-28 in the shots department (.179 percentage). The Rams outshot the Lakers by 11 and converted on .359 percent of its chances.

Iona 13, Mercyhurst 6
Mercyhurst did not turn things around in game two, losing to Iona by seven to end the day.

The Lakers trailed 4-2 at halftime, but the Gaels had a dominant 3
rd quarter, outscoring the Lakers 6-2.

Ryan Witoslawski led Mercyhurst with two goals and was second on the team with two steals.
Daniel Alvarez scored once on five shots and added two assists.
Philip Jenny also had a two-point game with a goal and an assist.

The Lakers had another tough shooting game, scoring on just six of 31 shot attempts (.194 shooting percentage). Iona posted a .371 shooting percentage, going 13-for-35.

Mercyhurst heads to Monmouth College for three Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference matchups next weekend, Oct. 28-29.
