GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University women's water polo team cruised to a 14-1 win at Grove City College Wednesday night. Eleven different Lakers netted goals, as the Lakers (6-10) recorded their sixth victory of the season.
Seniors
Aleeyse Utech and
Annie Blackman, along with junior
Becky Insalaco, each scored a goal in the first period, helping Mercyhurst jump out to an early 3-0 lead. Blackman also led the team in assists with two and recorded a steal.
The Lakers would poor it on in the second, as they would post six goals, taking a 9-0 lead into the break.
Kennedy Watson netted three goals in the period, while
Sarah Hershey scored two and
Emma Svantesson recorded one.
Erin Glass would score her second and third goals of the season in the third period.
Mackenzie Ryburn and
Anagabriella Guerra also scored in the period, their first goals of the season. The Wolverines tacked on a goal in the third, as well.
Nicki Borella closed the scoring in fourth, scoring her second goal of the season.
Jesse Sworden recorded 11 saves, one assist and one steal in the win.
Mercyhurst looks to continue their winning ways in their final two games of the season. The Lakers will play at crosstown rival Gannon Saturday, April 9. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start. Both teams will meet again on Saturday, April 16, at the Cathedral Prep Event Center for Senior Day. Game time is also scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
