LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University women's water polo team dropped an 11-4 decision at Bucknell University (12-11) Saturday afternoon, 11-4.
Kennedy Watson netted two goals to lead the Lakers (5-10).
The Lakers and Bison were knotted at two apiece at the end of the first period of play, with Watson and
Meagan Marques each recording goals.
Bucknell's strong second quarter helped them to pull away from Mercyhurst, as the Bison held the Lakers scoreless, while scoring two goals in the frame. The Bison took a 4-2 lead into the break.
Mercyhurst would get back on the board in the third quarter, adding two more goals from Watson and
Becky Insalaco. Bucknell would tack on four more goals during the third, as well, as the Bison led 8-4 heading into the fourth.
The Bison would score three more goals in the final frame, while holding the Lakers scoreless, to close out the scoring at 11-4.
Katie Appell dished out two assists, while
Aleeyse Utech and
Annie Blackman each posted one. Laker goalkeeper
Jesse Sworden recorded nine saves.
Mercyhurst will resume play on Wednesday, April 6, when they travel to Grove City College for a 7:00 p.m. start.
