Women's Ice Hockey Top Seed Heading into CHA Tournament Semifinals

Box Score The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team will meet Robert Morris on Friday in a College Hockey America Tournament semifinal matchup at HARBORCENTER in Buffalo, N.Y. Opening faceoff will take place at 12 p.m.

The Lakers (17-10-5) are the No. 1 seed in the CHA Tournament while RMU is the four-seed. The Colonials (17-15-5) defeated five-seed Lindenwood, taking two games in a best-of-three series. The other CHA Tournament semifinal will feature two-seed Syracuse (18-13-3) and three-seed Penn State (12-18-6). Like the Lakers, the Orange received a by directly into the semifinals; PSU needed to sweep the Rochester Institute of Technology in the CHA first round.

The tournament champion will receive a berth to the NCAA Tournament -- only the second automatic bid in conference history. Last year, RIT claimed the first-ever CHA auto bid. Dating back to 2003, Mercyhurst has won the most CHA Tournament championships, winning 10 of 13, including a stretch of nine straight from 2003-11. Robert Morris broke that streak by winning in 2012, followed by the Lakers again in 2013 and then back-to-back tournament wins by RIT.

The Lakers went 3-0-1 against Robert Morris during the regular season. They also went 2-2 versus Syracuse and 2-0-2 against Penn State.

The weekend's festivities kick off on Thursday night with the CHA Awards Banquet. The league's major award winners as well as the All-CHA First, Second, and Rookie Teams will be announced.

Tickets to the games will be available at HARBORCENTER. The prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students with college IDs and youth. Friday's tickets include admission to both semifinal games.

All games will be broadcast on EverSport.TV under CHA Women's Hockey. The cost for a single game is $10.99 while a tournament package is available for $35.
