PRINCETON, N.J. - The Mercyhurst University women's water polo team suffered a 10-5 loss to Bucknell University on Saturday afternoon during day two of competition at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championships. The Lakers, who dropped to 11-13 on the season, will now play against Connecticut College on Sunday morning in the ninth place match.
Mercyhurst kept things close through three quarters on Saturday and entered the fourth quarter trailing by a 6-5 score. However, the Bison blanked the Lakers in the final eight minutes and broke things open with four goals during that same stretch for the final margin.
Freshman
Kennedy Watson led the Lakers with two goals and an assist while junior
Annie Blackman and sophomores
Jena Clinch and
Becky Insalaco each tallied once in the loss. Junior
Meagan Marques posted a team-high two assists while Clinch and Insalaco chipped in with a pair of steals.
Junior
Jesse Sworden posted ten saves in the complete-game effort.
Mercyhurst, which defeated Connecticut College 11-9 on March 14, will play for ninth place at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
