LEWISBURG, PA – The Mercyhurst Men's water polo team traveled to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to take on the #14 team in the country, the Bucknell Bison. The Bison jumped out to a four goal lead in the first, outscoring the Lakers 6-2. The Bison continued to control the pace in the second quarter, outscoring the Lakers 4-1. The Bison carried a seven-goal lead into the half, while the Lakers looked to regroup. The Lakers came out firing in the third quarter, and outscored their nationally ranked opponent 3 -2. The Bison retook control in the fourth, blanking the Lakers 4-0, leading to a 16-6 loss for the Lakers.
Connor Schmitz and Dave Matulis accounted for most of the scoring, tallying two a piece. Jordan Hodur and Jack Howe also contributed on the scoreboard with a goal each. Sophomore goalie Gene Bilbao was impressive in the second half, recording nine saves, and a steal. Andrew Too-A-Foo played the first half in net recording two saves. The Lakers now look to return to Lewisburg next weekend to begin postseason play, at the CWPA Southern Championship.
