CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Mercyhurst women's water polo team lost a pair of games at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Championship Saturday. The Lakers fell, 11-3, to Bucknell and then dropped a 14-5 decision to Brown. Both matches were hosted by Harvard University.
Against Bucknell, Mercyhurst trailed, 1-0, after a quarter, and then fell behind, 3-1, at the half. Four Bison goals in the third frame sealed the contest.
Cailin Jope led with two goals and an assist.
Meagan Marques had a goal and
Jena Clinch dished out an assist.
Jesse Sworden recorded 10 saves in goal.
In the loss to Brown, the Lakers were down, 4-2, at the end of the first period. Brown added three more scores in the second quarter and pulled away with a 4-1 advantage in the third.
Jope finished with a pair of goals and a helper.
Aleeyse Utech tallied a goal and an assist.
Allie Grimes and Katie Jeffrey each scored a goal, while
Ali Iaquinto and
Annie Blackman had an assist apiece.
Rachel Stock contributed eight saves in net.
Mercyhurst dropped to 9-13 this season. It faces George Washington in the fifth-place match at Southerns tomorrow. The game is slated for a 10 a.m. start at Harvard.
