Box Score ERIE, Pa.- The #13 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team beat Gannon, 12-7, Saturday afternoon.
Hannah Corton recorded three goals and an assist in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win at Tullio Field.
The Lakers slowly took control in the first half, as
Rebecca Muscella played a big role in keeping Gannon off the scoreboard. She made six saves, including several at point-blank range, as Mercyhurst took a 4-0 lead.
Jenna Schlagenhauf scored at the 26:29 mark and then
Hannah Corton posted a pair of goals. With 10:26 remaining in the period,
Anna LeGrett scored for a 4-0 advantage.
Kimberly Neagle got the Lady Knights on the board after that, but Schlagenhauf assisted on a
Carly Zimmerman goal with 8:15 to play, giving the Lakers a 5-1 lead. Neagle came back with two goals to close the gap. Corton followed with an assist to
Regan Kaestner with 4:42 left in the half, sending the match into halftime with the Lakers up, 6-3.
GU scored to start the second half, but LeGrett and
Becca Himes each found the back of the net to stretch the margin. Himes hit
Mackenzie Jordan at the 23:07 mark before Gannon scored two more goals. Corton's third goal of the day made it 10-6 with just under eight minutes to play. Neagle scored her seventh goal of the match, but
Taylor Ventre and Jordan both converted free position shots to seal the decision.
Corton led with a hat trick and a helper. Jordan and LeGrett each scored twice, while Himes and Schlagenhauf had a goal and an assist apiece. Muscella finished with 11 saves. Neagle had seven goals for the Knights.
Mercyhurst improved to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the PSAC. Gannon dropped to 6-7 overall and 3-5 in the league. The Lakers play at IUP on Tuesday, April 15, in another PSAC contest.
