ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's water polo team heads to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Championship this weekend. All games will be held at Blodgett Pool on the campus of Harvard University.
Mercyhurst will face Bucknell on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and then take on Brown at 4 p.m. The top four teams in the six-team field will advance to the CWPA Championship April 25-26.
Mercyhurst went 9-11 in the regular season, earning the sixth seed at this weekend's event.
Cailin Jope led the team with 59 points (46 goals, 13 assists) and 41 steals.
Jena Clinch posted 45 points (20 goals, 25 assists) and
Meagan Marques scored 25 goals.
Becky Insalaco added 37 points (22 goals, 15 assists).
Jesse Sworden appeared in 18 games in goal, recording 139 saves and allowing 7.16 goals per game.
Bucknell sports a 10-11 record entering this weekend. Julianne Valdes scored a team-high 29 goals and Eleanor Marrs tallied 17 goals and 28 assists. Mackenzie Ferry contributed 23 goals and 20 helpers.
Brown went 16-14 this season. Kate Woods paced the Bears with 115 points (66 goals, 49 assists). Emily McNamara posted 42 goals, while Liz Rosen registered 37 goals and 46 assists this year.
Princeton earned the top seed this weekend. Bucknell is second, with Brown third. Harvard is the fourth seed and George Washington is fifth. Mercyhurst took the sixth seed this season.
