NORTH EAST, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's water polo team lost a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) matches at the North East Aquatic Center Saturday. The Lakers fell, 13-9, to #9 Princeton and then dropped an 11-5 decision to Bucknell.
Against the Tigers, Mercyhurst trailed, 2-1, after a period. The second quarter featured plenty of action, with the Lakers challenging Princeton. The visitors took a 7-5 advantage into halftime. Princeton scored four third-quarter goals to take control, but Mercyhurst did not give up, putting up three scores in the fourth to create the four-goal difference.
Becky Insalaco posted three goals and two assists.
Cailin Jope had a hat trick, while
Jena Clinch added two goals and a pair of helpers.
Jesse Sworden recorded 11 saves in net.
Mercyhurst got out to a 2-1 lead after a period against Bucknell. The Bison came back with six goals in the second frame, taking control of the contest.Â
Anne Blackman scored twice, while Jope, Insalaco, and
Ali Iaquinto had a goal apiece. Katie Jeffrey and
Allie Grimes both dished out two assists. Sworden totaled 10 saves and five steals in goal.
The Lakers play at Grove City College on Thursday, April 3, and then play three games at Bucknell next weekend.
