Women's Lacrosse Takes Down East Stroudsburg, 12-7, Friday

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team won, 12-7, at East Stroudsburg Friday afternoon. Jenna Schlagenhauf scored five goals to lead the Lakers to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory.
After two early Warrior goals, Anna LeGrett found Mackenzie Jordan for a goal at the 25:52 mark. A few minutes later, Jordan hit Schlagenhauf to even the match at 2. ESU responded with a pair of goals, but Carly Zimmerman trimmed the deficit with 11:27 to go in the half and then Jordan connected with Schlagenhauf again, tying the game at 4 with just under eight minutes remaining in the period. LeGrett scored with 1:06 left in the frame, sending the Lakers into the locker room with a 5-4 edge.

Mercyhurst took control of the match in the second half, scoring three times in the first nine minutes to go up by four goals. Jordan scored at the 26:26 mark and LeGrett followed with a score four minutes after. Schlagenhauf made it 8-4 with a goal just 35 seconds later. With 16:11 remaining, Hannah Corton assisted on another Jordan goal, expanding the margin again. 

The hosts followed with two scores, but Schlagenhauf got things back on track with a goal at the 8:10 mark. Corton tallied her second assist of the day on the play. Becca Himes then converted a free position attempt with 2:24 showing on the clock, giving the Lakers an 11-7 advantage. Himes hit Schlagenhauf for her fifth goal of the contest with 1:24 to play.

Schlagenhauf finished with five goals, while Jordan put up three goals and a pair of assists. LeGrett contributed two goals and an assist. Rebecca Muscella made 13 saves in goal. Himes added a goal and a helper. 

Shots were almost even, with ESU taking 28 to Mercyhurst's 27 on the day. The Lakers collected 25 ground balls to just 20 for the Warriors. Mercyhurst won 11-21 draw controls.

Mercyhurst improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC. East Stroudsburg fell to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Lakers play at #10 West Chester tomorrow. The PSAC match is set for a 3 p.m. start.
