PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team won, 24-3, at Lake Erie College Wednesday evening.
Becca Himes recorded four goals and three assists to lead the Lakers to a non-conference win at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
Mercyhurst took a 4-0 lead after just 2:48 and grabbed a 9-0 advantage with 16:27 remaining in the first half. The Lakers led, 17-1, at halftime.
Taylor Ventre scored 29 seconds in, with
Anna LeGrett assisting.
Jenna Schlagenhauf then found
Regan Kaestner for a goal at the 28:55 mark. Schlagenhauf scored 44 seconds later for a 3-0 advantage.
Emily Pflumm hit Schlagenhauf for another score just under a minute later.
Himes scored her first goal of the day with 23:48 left in the half, as
Hannah Corton assisted. Himes set up goals by
Shannen Drennon and Corton, and then Corton finished a free position shot, giving the Lakers an 8-0 lead.
Olivia Keirn converted a free position attempt for a 9-0 margin with 16:27 to play in the period.
After a Storm goal, Schlagenhauf found the back of the net. Himes followed with three consecutive goals, putting Mercyhurst ahead, 13-1, with 5:21 remaining in the frame.
Janelle Williams scored and then Keirn assisted on goals by
Mackenzie Jordan and
Emily Gebhardt. The Lakers entered the locker room with a 17-1 lead.
Lake Erie scored to open the second half, but four straight Laker goals slammed the door on any potential Storm rally.
Amanda Slavin, Williams,
Kyla Keefe, and
Ashley Nelson each scored, giving Mercyhurst a 21-2 lead at the 18:45 mark. LEC scored a few minutes later, and then
Morgan Parker and
Kristina Roberti posted their first goals of the match. Gebhardt capped the scoring with a free position goal at the 4:36 mark.
Himes finished with four goals and three helpers. Keirn had a goal and dished out a career-high four assists. Schlagenhauf tallied a hat trick and an assist, while Corton and Gebhardt had two goals and a helper apiece. Keefe and Williams each scored twice, as Jordan and Slavin registered a goal and an assist apiece.
Kyra Maludy made one save while playing the first half in goal.
Gabby Gravino made her Laker debut in the second half, recording one save.
The Lakers held a 26-10 advantage in shots and an 18-9 lead in ground balls. Mercyhurst won 18 of 28 draw controls in the contest.
Mercyhurst improved to 4-1 this year. LEC fell to 1-4. The Lakers host Millersville in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, March 22. The match is set for an 11 a.m. start at Tullio Field.
