TIFFIN, Ohio- The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team won, 16-5, at Tiffin Saturday afternoon.
Becca Himes recorded three goals and four assists to lead the Lakers to the non-conference victory.
Mercyhurst got out to a strong start, scoring twice in the first 85 seconds to take an early advantage.
Anna LeGrett and
Hannah Corton each scored before Tiffin cut the deficit with a goal. LeGrett answered with another goal and then Himes found
Regan Kaestner for a 4-1 lead at the 24:24 mark.
Taylor Ventre then found
Mackenzie Jordan for a score. Jordan assisted on a Himes goal with 19:36 remaining, making it 6-1.
After a Dragon score, Himes found the back of the net. She then hit Jordan for a goal and an 8-2 advantage at the 16:32 mark.
Jenna Schlagenhauf converted a free position attempt and then LeGrett scored, giving Mercyhurst a 10-2 margin. Corton and Schlagenhauf each scored to close the Lakers' first-half scoring. With 4:19 left in the frame, Tiffin scored to cut its deficit to 12-3.
Goals by Kaestner and Schlagenhauf early in the second period gave the Lakers more than enough breathing space. Himes added another goal and
Olivia Keirn capped the day's scoring for Mercyhurst.
Himes finished with three goals and four assists. LeGrett and Schlagenhauf had three scores apiece. Jordan posted two goals and two helpers, while Corton and Kaestner each scored twice.
Rebecca Muscella made four saves in goal.
The Lakers held a 41-13 advantage in shots and forced 20 Tiffin turnovers.
Mercyhurst is now 2-1 this season. It plays at Findlay tomorrow at noon. Tiffin dropped to 0-5 in 2014.
