#7 Men’s Soccer Ready for Rematch against #1 Charleston in NCAA Atlantic Region Final

ERIE, Pa. – The #7 Mercyhurst men's soccer team touched down in North Andover, MA to face off against familiar foe #1 University of Charleston at Merrimack College Thursday. Match play is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.

After defeating Notre Dame (OH) Sunday, November 16, 1-0, in the second round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament, the Lakers were set to head to Martin-Mejail Field for the Atlantic Regional Final with a rematch against the Golden Eagles.

The Lakers traveled to Charleston for the second game of the season in non-conference play, where they were handed their first loss of the year, 1-4. Senior captain Fernando Martinez scored the lone Laker goal late in the contest after Charleston

Charleston has kept the ball rolling all year, as they have dominated their competition. The Golden Eagles have outscored their opponents 79-9 this season. Charleston also has only let up two goals since October 11. The Golden Eagles come into the contest with a 19-0-1 record with their tie coming in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play to West Virginia Wesleyan on October 5. They would go onto to win the MEC Tournament, defeating Wheeling Jesuit, 1-0, and earned the number one seed in the Atlantic Region Division.

Mercyhurst has also had their way with most of their competition this season, as they have outscored their opponents 68-20. With a record of 19-2-0, the Lakers won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference regular season and tournament with wins over West Chester, 2-1, in double overtime and Bloomsburg, 5-0. As the offense has continued to overachieve with the help of Jack Watson's 22 goals and Danny Deakin's 16 assists, both of which are atop the leaders in the country in their respected statistical categories.

The winner of the Atlantic Region Division will move on to play the winner of the East Region, LIU Post versus host Merrimack College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
