NORTH EAST, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team won, 9-5, over Penn State Behrend Sunday afternoon. Six different Lakers scored in the home finale, which saw the three Mercyhurst seniors honored prior to the contest.
A slow opening quarter resulted in a 2-1 Laker edge. Mercyhurst scored three times in the second period, holding the Lions scoreless. Four more goals in the third frame allowed the Lakers to roll to victory.
Samuel Lopez,
Joe Yamamoto, and
Gavin Oakley each put up two goals and an assist.
Alex Strong recorded a goal and two helpers.
Dave Matulis and
Shaquille Mitchell scored a goal apiece.
Kevin Doyle made 10 saves in net, adding an assist and a pair of steals.
Lopez, Oakley, and Strong were honored before the game. Mercyhurst has now won 23 consecutive matches against Behrend. The Lakers are 12-10 this season. They conclude the regular season next weekend, facing Salem International and Gannon at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion on Saturday, November 1.Â
