ERIE, Pa. – The men's soccer team gets ready to host current first place Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Bloomsburg Saturday, October 11, at 3:30 p.m.
Mercyhurst, 9-2-0 overall (3-1-0 PSAC), comes into the contest in a five way tie for second place in the conference.
The Lakers are riding a five game winning streak and have a 13-0-0 all-time record against the Huskies.
Bloomsburg, 6-2-2 overall (4-1-0 PSAC), is coming off a 2-1 overtime victory at home against Gannon Wednesday night. They lead the Lakers by three conference points in the standings, 12-9.
As a team, Mercyhurst and Bloomsburg rank one and two in about every statistical category in the conference. Mercyhurst holds the advantage in shots (191-151), points (82-69), goals (29-26), and assists (24-17). Bloomsburg only leads the Lakers in goals allowed (.90-1.09).
Mercyhurst's big three, Senior Fernando Martinez, Redshirt Sophomore Jack Watson, and Sophomore Danny Deakin, are atop the PSAC list in all statistical categories.
Martinez is third in the conferencee is assists (5) and assists per game (.455).
Watson leads the league in goals (11), goals per game (1.00), points (25), shots (49), and points per game (2.27). He is currently second in shots per game averaging 4.45.
Deakin is third in shots (44), shots per game (4.00), points (16), points per game (1.45), and goals (5). He is second in the league with assists (6) and assists per game (.545).
The Lakers will be tested against Bloomsburg goalkeeper Jared Ott who looks to slow down the high powered Mercyhurst offensive attack. Ott leads the PSAC in goals against average at .851 and shutouts with 3.
