ERIE, Pa. – No. 19 Mercyhurst University remained undefeated in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) after four different Lakers scored to beat Shippensburg University 4-2 Friday.
The Lakers improved to 4-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the PSAC and have won three games straight. Shippensburg fell to 3-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the PSAC.
The Lakers outshot Shippensburg 21 top 12 throughout the entire contest. Mercyhurst has outshot every opponent faced in the 2013-14 season (eight straight games). Freshman
Danny Deakin tallied seven shots total, with one reaching the goal. Junior

Joseph Korb both tallied five shots.
Mercyhurst scored early and often as Martinez ignited the Mercyhurst offense. Martinez dribbled through three defensemen before shooting the ball to the bottom right corner of the net giving the Lakers the 1-0 edge. The goal marked Martinez's eighth goal of the season.
Korb scored his first goal as a Mercyhurst Laker after Deakin gave a through ball at the center of the penalty box. Shippensburg goalkeeper Clay Sale intercepted the pass, but could not hold onto the ball giving Korb an open net.
Freshman
Jose Reynaldo Martinez marked his first collegiate goal. Martinez extended the lead to 3-0 at the 83:09 mark with an unassisted goal. Just three minutes later, Deakin tallied his sixth goal of the season to push the lead to 4-0.
Shippensburg did not give in, scoring two late goals exactly two minutes apart at the 87:34 and 89:34 minutes of the match. Raiders' Robert Furfaro and Oli Templeton tallied the goals.
Senior
Mikko Sarkkinen improved to 4-2-0 and 3-0-0 (PSAC) while in net for Mercyhurst. Sarkkinen allowed two goals on six shots on net.
Sale played the entire 90:00 minutes, allowing four goals on five shots on net.
The Lakers host Millersville University at Saturday, September 28 at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field. The match is set for 4:30 p.m.
