Men's Water Polo Travels to Colorado for Three Games

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team heads to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for a trio of games this weekend. The Lakers face Pomona-Pitzer on Friday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern (5:30 p.m. Mountain). They then take on California Baptist Saturday, September 28, at 6 p.m. Eastern (4 p.m. Mountain). Mercyhurst closes the weekend with a match at Air Force on Sunday, September 29, at 1 p.m. Eastern (11 a.m. Mountain).

Mercyhurst is among those receiving votes in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Top 20. It swept four local matches last weekend, including an 11-9 victory over crosstown rival Gannon. Garret Schoeman paces the attack with 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists). Brett Luehmann has scored 16 goals to lead the Lakers.
 
Pomona-Pitzer is also receiving votes in this week's CWPA Varsity poll. The Sagehens are 2-6, having beaten Cal Baptist and Occidental September 21. Freshman James Baker leads with 16 goals.
 
Cal Baptist has a 3-5 mark in 2013. The Lancers split four home contests last weekend, including an 11-9 loss to Pomona on Saturday.
 
Air Force is 1-7 this year, having faced a difficult schedule. The Falcons are tied for 20th in the Varsity Top 20 are advancing to the NCAA Final Four last season. In 2013, Air Force has lost to six nationally-ranked opponents. Three of its losses have been by one goal. Senior Josh Stedman has scored a team-high 18 goals.
