LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team split two games Sunday at the Bison Invite. The Lakers beat Penn State Behrend, 14-2, after falling, 10-6, to Fordham earlier in the day.
In the win over Behrend, 11 different Lakers scored a goal. Mercyhurst went up, 3-1, after a quarter and led, 5-1, at halftime. A six-goal explosion in the third sealed the decision.
Joshua Daniel led with two goals and three assists, while
Michael Lawson had two goals and a helper.
Gavin Oakley scored twice, while eight Lakers tallied one goal.
Matt Cote compiled eight saves in net.
Coach
Curtis Robinette has guided the Lakers to 17 consecutive wins over Behrend.
Against Fordham, Mercyhurst trailed, 3-2, after a period. The Rams stretched the margin to 5-3 at the half. Each team scored once in the third frame, but Fordham took control with four fourth-quarter goals.
The Lakers are now 2-1 in 2013 and will open the home portion of their schedule next weekend. They host Washington & Jefferson on Friday, September 20, at 8 p.m. and then face Gannon and Salem International the next day. All three games will be held at the North East Aquatic Center.
