Curtis Robinette became just the second head coach in Mercyhurst men's water polo history in the summer of 2002. He is responsible for all but two victories in school history and has built the program into one of the strongest at the Division II level. He enters his 20th season at the helm in 2021.
During the shortened 2020-21 season Mercyhurst ended with a 3-5 overall record with a 2-3 conference record.
During the 2019 season, the Lakers earned a 9-17 overall record.
During the 2018 season, he led the team to a 13-11 overall and 4-2 conference record.
During the 2017 season, Coach Robinette led his team to a 11-13 overall record which included going 6-1 in conference play. Mercyhurst qualified for its second-straight MAWPC Championship in the second year of the tournament's existence. They also had four players selected to the All-Conference team (Schmitz, Alvarez, Jenny, and Too-A-Foo).          Â
In 2016, the Lakers won the first ever West Division title in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference in the CPWA. The Lakers won 14 games that season, increasing Robinette's career win total to 173. The 2016 season also marked the 11th straight season Robinette's team has held a winning record.
Robinette’s 2009 campaign was one of many milestone seasons in his career at Mercyhurst. After four straight sub-.500 seasons, Robinette turned the program around and guided them to five straight winning seasons, beginning in 2006 when the team posted a 12-9 record and won its first Division II Eastern Championship title.
A 2002 graduate of Slippery Rock, Robinette was a standout player for the Rockets. He was a four-year varsity award winner, captain for two seasons and was the recipient of the Dr. Richard Hunkler Water Polo Scholarship.
After four years of coaching swimming at both Slippery Rock and Toledo, Ohio, Robinette made his debut as a water polo coach for the second-year Laker squad. He also directs the women's team.
Robinette, a native of Maumee, Ohio, is married and resides in Erie with his wife, Molly. They have two sons, Owen and Finn, and a daughter Poppy/
