LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The Mercyhurst University athletic teams finished the 2012-13 school year 11
th in the final Dixon Trophy standings, released Tuesday afternoon. The rankings calculate a school's final standing in every sport sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
The award is named in honor of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors. Presented for the first time following the 1995-96 academic year, the trophy is now in its 17th year of existence. In the final tabulations following the spring season, only an institution's top-12 sport finishes – six men's and six women's - count toward its total.
The Laker men took ninth, as soccer, football, and baseball led the way. The Mercyhurst women placed 11
th, with golf, tennis, and lacrosse collecting the most points.
West Chester took the Dixon Trophy after a stellar spring that saw the Rams win the PSAC lacrosse championship. Indiana (Pa.) finished just behind West Chester, with Shippensburg placing third.
In 2011-12, Bloomsburg won the award. Mercyhurst finished 12
th.
