WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Mercyhurst University baseball team got another outstanding pitching performance from senior
Ben Rawding as the Lakers earned their sixth straight win with a 4-0 shutout of West Liberty State on Friday afternoon. The Lakers improved to 10-7 on the season while the Hilltoppers dropped to 6-6.
Rawding improved to 5-0 on the season, pitching eight innings of shutout baseball. He allowed six hits, walked one, and struck out seven. He has now won 17 straight decisions, extending his PSAC record.
Junior
Tanner Delahoy pitched the ninth, retiring the side in order.
The game was scoreless until the bottom half of the seventh inning when the Lakers plated a pair of runs.
Brendan Cox and
Hank Morrison each had RBI singles during the frame.
Mercyhurst would tack on two more runs in the eighth inning courtesy of a two-run single by
Joel Yeagley.
Sophomore
Jake Marinelli had two of Mercyhurst's six hits on the afternoon. Senior
Zak Blair scored two of Mercyhurst's four runs.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday when they play Grand Valley State in a doubleheader from Consol Energy Field in Washington, Pa. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
