Gustin Backstops Lakers to 3-0 Victory over Millersville

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team blanked Millersville Saturday, 3-0.  Senior Diego Gustin set his personal best with his fifth shutout of the season.

 
The Lakers outshot the Marauders 19-8 throughout the match.  Mercyhurst moved to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC.  Millersville dropped to 5-4 overall, 2-2 in conference play.
 
The Lakers first goal was scored at the 24:56 mark of the first half when a corner kick was sent into the penalty box by sophomore Dane Rimko.  Junior David Dougherty scored his first goal of the season by heading the pass into the top left corner of the net..  Senior Austin Solomon scored less than six minutes later off of a pass from senior Alex Manea
 
In the second half, sophomore Fernando Martinez took a through pass from Solomon, and went in one-on-one with Millersville goaltender Chris Schneider.  Martinez won the battle, making the score 3-0.
 
Gustin (6-4) would play the entire 90:00 in net, making two saves.   Schneider took the loss in net for the Marauders, making seven saves.
 
The Lakers compete again Sunday, October 7 at University of Charleston in Charleston, W. Va.  The time of the match is set for 3:00 p.m.
