West Chester Outscores Men's Soccer in Home Opener, 2-1

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 verdict to West Chester on Friday.  The Lakers are now 5-1 in conference play and 5-4 overall.   
 
West Chester senior Taylor Eisenhauer scored at the 3:34 mark into the match.  He was assisted by sophomore Roberta Silva.  Mercyhurst would answer ten minutes later when senior Alex Manea received a pass from senior Matias Karioja and buried the shot.  Manea is now on a four match scoring streak.   But the Golden Rams scored the game-winner 21 minutes into the first half.  West Chester sophomore Christian Benner received a cross pass from Brett Snyder.  Benner knocked the ball into the left side of the net. 
 
The second half was scoreless.  Mercyhurst outshot West Chester eight to two in the second half and dominated corners five to two, but was unable to find the back of the net.
 
The Lakers outshot the Golden Rams 21 to five in the match.  West Chester goaltender Garrett Bleiler (3-2-2) made seven saves to record the win.  Senior goaltender Diego Gustin (5-4) made two saves on goal and allowed two while in net for the Lakers.
 
The Lakers will be at home again on Saturday, September 29 against Millersville University at 1:00 pm.
